Grbavica

When visiting Sarajevo at the turn of the millennium, I found a grim, depressing place in dismal conditions, but with some dark beauty shining through nonetheless.
The movie "Grbavica", set in 2006, portrays the reverse image of Sarajevo: a pretty average Eastern European city with most of the everyday problems you'd expect people to run into (money, school, crime), while at the same time, an unspeakable secret sits under the surface. Unlike most reviewers, I won't tell you how the movie ends. I will tell you that it won the Golden Bear in Berlin, and you should go see it.
